We hosted the second meeting of the COST Action LIAISE, funded by the European Commission, which took place in Spain from 23 to 25 April. During the meeting, we established working groups focused on sustainability and, more specifically, on Industrial Symbiosis.
LIAISE brought together a network of experts who shared knowledge to generate synergies among academia, industry, policymakers and technology organisations. The aim was to lay the foundations for the development of knowledge in Industrial Symbiosis and to guide future R&D strategies that could be implemented by public administrations.
The network included almost 200 experts from 45 countries who, over a four-year period, shared proposals to promote this key circular economy strategy. Its approach was based on using waste from one sector as raw material in another.
On 23 April, in Alicante, we held the Core Group meeting, where we assessed the first six months of the project and defined the next actions. In the afternoon, during the Management Committee session, we addressed budgetary matters and the integration of new members.
On 24 April, we held the main session at our facilities in Yecla. The institutional opening was led by María Cruz Ferreira, Regional Secretary for Energy; María Remedios Lajara, Mayor of Yecla; and our director, José Francisco Puche. Throughout the day, the working groups discussed the technical objectives and shared relevant progress.
The event concluded on 25 April at Alicante Science Park, with the second working-group session and the participation of nearly one hundred attendees, including representatives of companies working in the field of sustainability. We identified new synergies and discussed future barriers and challenges for Industrial Symbiosis.
We were proud to lead this international meeting and strengthen our commitment to sustainability and European collaboration. We continue working to develop innovative solutions that contribute to a more sustainable industrial future.
